Kindergarten is a very exciting time! In order to help our Kindergarten students be as successful as possible, we like to have them participate in small groups for their first week at school. This allows the students to get to know their teacher, educational assistants and their peers. It also allows them to be introduced to some of the classroom routines gradually. Parents are asked to bring their child to school for a half day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and to make arrangements to pick them up at 11:30 a.m. Full-time Kindergarten attendance will begin on Thursday, September 7th, 2017.

Parents are encouraged to join the class for the last 30 minutes to visit with their child and teacher and participate in an activity together. A snack will be provided on this day.

If your child registered with the school prior to June 29, you will have received information from the school outlining which day your child will attend.  If you did not receive this information, please contact Holly Berube in the school office at 780-467-7751.

If your child requires transportation for Kindergarten you will need to contact the Transportation office either at 780-417-8151 or to register for the bus.

If you have any questions or need to make a change to your scheduled time, please call the office at 780-467-7751.

Kindergarten Registration

Please note that in order to register your child for Kindergarten, they must be five years old on or before December 31 of the given school year to start Kindergarten in Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS). So, you can register your child in Kindergarten for the 2017/2018 school year if he/she will be five years old on or before December 31, 2017. Please note there are limited spots available in Kindergarten programs, and Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) encourages families to register early to avoid disappointment.

At Westboro Elementary, we offer both Regular and Logos program Kindergarten.  Regular Kindergarten programming is offered Monday and Wednesdays and alternate Fridays, full days, and Logos programming is offered Tuesday and Thursday and alternate Fridays, full days.  If class sizes allow, additional classes will be considered.  Please ensure that you make a note of your preferred class day on your registration form in the event that we are able to create additional classes.

We are so pleased that you are considering Westboro Elementary as your child’s school.

While school boundaries do not apply in Kindergarten, EIPS encourages parents/guardians to enroll their Kindergarten child in the school where the student will be designated for Grade 1. You can find your designated school using the Versatrans e-Link tool available at

Please note that priority for registration will be given to students who reside within our school boundaries.  If you wish to attend Westboro Elementary from another boundary within Sherwood Park, you must apply for a boundary exemption.  This process is outlined in the EIPS Kindergarten Procedure document found on our school website or on the Elk Island Public Schools website.

During Kindergarten registration, preference is given to students who will be designated to that school in Grade 1. Principals may consider accepting Kindergarten students from outside the school's boundary once they have determined if they will have space available in their planned Kindergarten classes after all in-boundary children have been accommodated.

To register your child for Kindergarten:

  • Complete the Student Registration Form
  • Take the completed form to your designated school. Registration forms will be accepted starting January 16, 2017.
  • Bring your child’s birth certificate so school personnel can make a copy, as required by Alberta Education.
  • Contact Student Transportation at 780-417-8151 or using our online contact form to make all busing arrangements, if required.
  • If you wish for your child to attend a non-designated school for Kindergarten, please follow the boundary exemption process.

We look forward to welcoming your child into one of our Kindergarten classrooms this fall.

If you have questions about transportation, please feel free to contact Student Transportation at 780-417-8151.

Starting school is always an exciting time and to help families prepare, EIPS has compiled a wealth of information including registration details, important dates, programming options, what to expect, eligibility, how to find your designated school, transportation, and more.
